Seaway 7 has installed the first monopile foundation at Vattenfall’s 1500MW Hollandse Kust Zuid offshore wind farm off the coast of the Netherlands.

The marine contractor is transporting and installing the project’s 140 foundations and 315km of 66kV array cables.

Offshore installation will continue through 2021 and 2022 using Seaway 7’s heavy lift, cable lay and support vessels, the company said.
The heaviest and largest monopile weighs 955 tonnes and is 75 metres long, while the lightest and shortest foundation still weighs 735 tonnes and is 62 metres long.

The monopiles will be installed in water depths varying from 17 to 28 metres.

Vattenfall is building Hollandse Kust Zuid together with its recently announced partner BASF.

The wind farm will be located approximately 18km off the coast of The Hague and Zandvoort, with the furthest turbines located 36km offshore.
