Sunrise Wind has hired a contractor to work on the foundations

Riggs Distler & Company selected to provide a broad range of components and services for the 880MW project

Orsted and Eversource’s Orsted 880MW Sunrise Wind offshore wind project off the coast of New York has chosen Riggs Distler & Company as the general contractor for foundation components.

Riggs Distler will provide a wide variety of onshore heavy civil, mechanical, and electrical services focused on the foundation components’ construction, assembly, inspection, and installation.

The scope of work will involve the building of large-scale and specialized components, such as exterior concrete platforms, suspended interior platforms, and anode cages, that are critical components of the wind farm’s foundations.

To develop the offshore wind components at the Port of Coeymans, Riggs Distler will directly employ over 100 craftsmen and women from local labor unions in New York.

Apprenticeship and on-the-job training will be provided by local unions, with extra chances to assist with building activities.

“We’re thrilled to be the general contractor for the Sunrise Wind farm and pleased to contribute our local experienced union workers to this landmark project,” said Riggs Distler president and chief executive Stephen Zemaitatis.

“Riggs Distler’s leadership team was among the first to see offshore wind’s transformative potential in the United States.

“As a result, we’ve worked diligently to guarantee that our company—our present and future team members, as well as our facilities—are prepared to assist in realizing the potential of this exciting new industry.”
